Formulation is the practice of turning key examples from Discovery into formalized documentation, such as Gherkin scenarios. Formulation is a creative process that should happen after Discovery and before Automation. Skipping discovery before doing formulation is an anti-pattern because you would miss the different perspectives required to uncover the “unknown-unknowns” and lock in the blindness to specific aspects of the problem at hand.
